What I've been working on the last few weeks or so.
The idea actually began with Ida's Halloween contest. But since I'm not a big fan of pumpkins, I got to the roots, and dug out the old myth of Morrigan and Dagda making love at Samhain, the eve of the battle of Mag Tuired. Wiki: On Samhain she keeps a tryst with the Dagda before the battle against the Fomorians. When he meets her she is washing herself, standing with one foot on either side of the river Unius. In some sources she is believed to have created the river. After they have sex, the Morrígan promises to summon the magicians of Ireland to cast spells on behalf of the Tuatha Dé, and to destroy Indech, the Fomorian king, taking from him "the blood of his heart and the kidneys of his valour". Later, we are told, she would bring two handfuls of his blood and deposit them in the same river I started off in Photoshop with quite another version - I had a naked Dagda worshiping Morrigan, but it just didn't work. Just didn't. I messed with it, and nothing. No-go. Finally I decided to use one of my own resources for Dagda. The man is an old friend of mine, and totally worthy of a god and king I messed with the wings a lot. For the first wings in my life they will have to do. I've not had any practice. Used some tutorial for them, but most of it was just trial and error. Still, for a person who cannot draw, I think they came out pretty OK. As to the queer way her dress is looking... That just happened. Now it looks as if she was growing out of the earth or would be half a tree The background is a mixture of photomanipulation and painting. The upper half is more manipulated, and the lower half is solely painted. I'm not sure if the river is more of blood or fire, but it is red for certain. That was one of the latest add-ons. And I pretty much overpainted Dagda, I fixed the hair (gave him a new set), and I gave him this hooded cloak. Cloak's been painted from scrap, no ref, even. For my first damn painting, I'd say it looks OK, don't you? At first his position was a bit different, but I wasn't satisfied with it, so lastly I repositioned him. A good 70% of this picture has been digitally painted. The rest might be considered manipping. Now, I don't consider the pic perfect, far from that. But let me stress to you and myself, that it's the first one I've ever drawn like this. (I'm used to saying I cannot draw to save my life...) Need to practice, practice, practice. *** MY ENTRY FOR the Halloween Contest hosted by *mizzd-stock *** STOCK USED: *mizzd-stock (Morrigan) ~ro-stock (brushes, texture) ~la-layelah (raven's head) =Moonchilde-Stock (nebula) The rest has been painted by yours truly. |

The raven head is supposed to be creepy. I did the wings the best I could ( I can NOT draw, I am merely trying), the hand is as it was and the spear is sheathe of his sword, instead.

Ah, well. It's more ugly than creepy. Swan killer!
They aren't horrid - and I really can't draw either! - just a bit awkward.
Meh. Meh. I'm done. It's still very good. Loads better than I could do or others I've seen. And you're improving, which is most important.
