Starborn by Mithgariel Starborn by Mithgariel
I totally blame Andreea *FrozenStarRo in the inspiration and encouragement.

So this picture is dedicated to her. Enjoy, my dear. :rose:

***********************************************

Of making: About 70 layers, which is about 40 more than I am used to. "Hair" is placed there one by one, each turned in correct direction. Background is also texture + one brush after another, twisted and turned. Each object has been blended, texturized etc etc. But I kind of enjoyed making this, or else I would not have.

This is special piece for at least two reasons - I have never done a portrait before and I have never done a more serious sci-fi. This is both. Hope you like. I do.

***********************************************

Wiggy, I'm reminded for some reason of one of those undersea creatures, the chemosynthetic vent worms. Her hair, I mean. :D It's such a cool idea and you've done really well on this one. Yay!

This reminds me, in a very distant way, of something religious--and so I think the title and the rest work beautifully to really tell a story with this image.

Millegi pärast tekitab see pilt minus hirmujudinad, vaatama sellele, et ma pole nõrganärviline ja see pilt on super. Tähendab... sa suudad selle pildiga minus mingeid emotsioone tekitada ja see ongi ju peamine. Well done!

P.S- need sinised värvid on 5+++

:) Lahe. *kujutab nüüd ette hirmujudinates end kõrva tagant sügavat Tintzu peegli ees*

Ja mul on mingi sinise värvi fetiš. Ma kardan, et selles on osaliselt süüdi Liiliatydruk.

Wow, I love love LOVE the way you arranged the pipes in her hair. Absolute genius, it's just perfect. The wisps are very neat too, I love the alternating colours and the way they're arranged - remind me of porcupine quills almost, the shape of them. The textures themselves are used masterfully, just makes the picture shine...

I'd have to say (if you really want me to be nitpickity, I know sometimes artists appreciate that far more than "omg love it") there are a few things I'd just alter slightly, but really not much. The circuitry on her head I might rotate counter-clockwise by 90° and move back a little, to neatly nest in the area free of pipes - that way it separates the circuits from the buttony thing a bit, so they don't take attention away from eachother and so it looks more natural. The switch on her neck I might move down a bit, so there's more flow from her face along her neck; just gives her ear a bit more space so the button and switch and ear aren't all clumped together.

The only other thing that I'd REALLY change and that wouldn't be too hard to is the dark smudge in front of her nose- at first when I saw the thumb of this I thought it was Pinnochio, from a distance or when small the smudge looks like an extension of her nose :P

But seriously, even WITHOUT those changes and just how it is it's an amazing piece. The emotion and the fluidity and style, I love it all. It's just SO darned cool, dera, can't express it in words

I still made those changes, and yes, I think it does look better now :) What do you think?

:worship:

I think it does, yup - the rotated circuitry board in particular, just looks like it belongs there and fits perfectly now. And the lack of a smudge helps, no more Pinnochio! :giggle:

I do like the flow along her neck now, too, doesn't quite break the line between shoulder and face so much....

You did it perfectly, I love! :glomp:

It was quite some work with masking, especially making the texture on the neck look normal - clone would not work, so I started copying pieces from her skin elsewhere, and pasting them where needed. Took me about an hour to edit, and then like 3 to upload, since my internet went nuts.

But you were right. Does look better now :D

I did not think I could make it, for as I told you, I did not have the psd file, but the jpg and I had to work on that. So I even made safe copies in case I should screw up something. First I did, and then I got a better idea and used that. Neck was one hell of a ...neck.
